NY Forward is a New York State downtown revitalization program focused on supporting smaller towns and villages through strategic investments in concentrated, walkable areas. Successful applications require a mix of both public and private projects that can help strengthen downtown vibrancy, economic development, and quality of life.
The Town/Village of East Rochester will hold a Public Information & Project Input Meeting on Tuesday, June 23rd at 6:00 PM at the Jean Daniel Community Center, located at 317 Main Street.
Community members are encouraged to attend and provide ideas for potential municipal improvement projects. Property owners, business owners, developers, and organizations with potential private projects are also encouraged to come forward and present concepts for consideration.
The Town/Village is also seeking a group of local stakeholders interested in serving on a potential NY Forward Guiding Committee. If awarded, this committee would work alongside the State throughout the planning process to help shape the community vision, review projects, and guide revitalization efforts. Business owners, residents, nonprofit representatives, property owners, and other community stakeholders are encouraged to express interest.
The two potential NY Forward study areas currently being considered are:
• 100–300 Blocks of Main Street and 100–500 Blocks of W. Commercial Street
• Despatch Drive to S. Washington Street to Linden Avenue
Public participation will play an important role in shaping East Rochester’s revitalization vision and identifying projects that could strengthen the community for years to come.
We would encourage anyone wishing to serve on the committee as well as any potential project sponsors to be in attendance. The intent will be for potential project sponsors to discuss their ideas with the public.
